Coco Leaf

Our story

Coco Leaf is a collaboration between Somath Om and Eric Ly

It started after a trip to Vietnam, where we spent weeks immersed in the local coffee and dessert culture. We wanted to recreate a space reminiscent of the local cafes and dessert shops found throughout Saigon.

Somath, through his travels and experiences in kitchens in Boston, New York and Europe brings creativity and reinterpretations of traditional Vietnamese desserts for a modern setting. Using classical and modern techniques with unique and exotic ingredients Somath creates whimsical Asian desserts. Eric embodies the spirit of hieu khach, meaning to serve your guests wholeheartedly. His caring nature, easy demeanor and attention to detail makes him the perfect host.

What is Chè

Chè is a Vietnamese word that refers to traditional Vietnamese sweet beverages, sweet dessert soups or puddings. Chè is most commonly made with mung beans, black-eyed peas, kidney beans, tapioca, jellies and fresh fruits. Served cold in the summer for an icy refreshing treat or warm in the winter for a comforting snack. Other ingredients, such as pandan, chrysanthemum, jasmine and passion fruit reflect the beautifully bright, tropical and floral flavors of Southeast Asia.   All of our Chè is prepared fresh to ensure every ingredient is at its peak flavor.
